I wanted to try having Red use skirmishers to seize the town and hold it till help arrives as well as hoping for a 2nd unit to flank the defensive line. I didn't get the 2nd unit and ended up with Anglophile dice that allowed the English (Blue) to have a unit in the town with 1 strength point left at the end of the game. So, might have worked.

Still not my cup of tea but I think better of the rule than I originally did.

Blog post here if you're interested in seeing it.
Ross Mac rmacfa@gmail.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04053555991679802013noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38671384.post-88699570041752630542020-03-15T02:05:00.826-07:002020-03-15T02:05:00.826-07:00I greatly prefer to play any of the scenarios with...I greatly prefer to play any of the scenarios with short ranged or melee units only. The 12“ ranged fire produces all kinds of wierdy gamey distortions (three units ganging up on one etc) which is why for WW2 grand tactical games I've reduced the ranges to six inches, measured strictly centre to centre. I agree for bottleneck type scenarios, this an make it hard for an attacker.

Ive run Gitschin with a number of rules, but NTs version captures the essence of the battle really well.
